- Not yet mid forties....not yet overweight...awaiting inevitable onset of some sort of mid life crisis. Still wife of Toby, still Coldstream Guards, somehow ended up mother of four children, somehow all still alive, well fed, clothed and educated. Would give myself 7 out of 10 so far.
Toby finally left for Afghanistan this morning after several previously aborted attempts.Last news was that after rising at 4 am and travelling by car to Brize Norton with the Sgt Major, they were still waiting to board a plane at 6pm this evening. Signs of a hasty departure were evident around the house, including a cold cup of tea left on the kitchen side, mud all over the kitchen floor from desert (mud) boots and worst of all... a hot water bottle left behind on the bed! We all hope it doesn't get too cold at night out there in Helmand now, or you might regret that packing decision Toby! The children arose disconsolate that mummy was in charge of breakfast, but soon perked up at the sight of a hastily scribbled note from daddy on the table.We have put it on the wall alongside an old spidery army id card that they found behind the fridge. It's starting to look unnervingly like a shrine.
